# Patients

> When an appeal needs the patient's signature, and how you introduce us.

Some appeals have to come from the patient. For those claims, our team appeals as the patient's authorized
representative, so the patient signs an authorization first. Your part is to introduce us.

## Invite patients

The **Invite patients** item in To do opens **Patients to invite**: the patients whose signature we need, each
with an **invite-by** date.

* **One at a time**: confirm or enter the patient's email or mobile number (and date of birth if the claim
doesn't have it) and send the invite.
* **Several at once**: upload a CSV with account number, email and phone (up to 200 rows). We match rows by
account number and tell you which ones didn't match and why.

Owners and admins invite patients. A few days before the earliest invite-by date, they get one reminder email.

## What the patient sees

The patient gets a link by email or text, from your practice with Denialbase.

1. **Confirm it's you**: they enter their date of birth. Nothing about the claim shows before that.
2. **Let us appeal on your behalf**: a plain summary of which denial, for how long the authorization lasts, that
they can revoke it any time, and that your practice pays for our work, not the patient.
3. **Sign**, then their case page: what happens next and when, and a timeline of the appeal.

Every email and text afterwards carries a link back to their case page, which asks for their date of birth each
time it's opened. Patients can revoke their authorization from the case page.

## The appeal button

If your patients use your own patient portal, our team can switch on an **appeal button** for your practice:
a small "We can appeal this denial for you" button you show next to the patient's denied claim. It opens the same
signing page.

* Our team switches it on and keeps the list of websites allowed to show it. **Settings → Appeal button** shows
  the setup for your developers.
* The signing link for each claim comes from the [claims API](/api-reference/introduction) (`signing.url`).
* In statements, emails or texts, use the signing link directly.

It only ever opens a signing request our team created; patients never start an appeal themselves.
